Kids Healthier Cereal Bars
My children love cereal bars, they are so handy, tasty and readily available. The only downside is that the sugar content in them tends to be quite high. So while I do believe in everything in moderation, I've been wanting to create my own healthier version for a while. I wanted to make sure these were going to be suitable for lunchboxes so they are nut free.
Healthier Cereal Flapjack
Ingredients
150g porridge oats
100g butter
1 banana, mashed
3 tbsp honey
50g sunflower seeds
50g rice krispies
50g chocolate (optional)
Method
Preheat the oven to 160 fan. Mix together in a large bowl the oats, rice krispies and sunflower seeds. Melt the butter and the honey together in a pan. Once melted add the mashed banana and mix well. Then add the banana mixture to the dry bowl and mix well until all the dry bowl is well combined. Add to a greased tin or silicone tray. Bake in the oven for 25 minutes until golden. Allow to cool completely.
Optional, melt chocolate in a microwave or in a bowl. Using a fork, flick the melted chocolate onto the flapjack. Cut into bars and store in an airtight container.
